As stated in our previous blog post, we are redefining Shãka Studios American Furniture so to better cope with my wife’s breast cancer diagnosis. This means we will pare down our current furniture offering plus incorporate fine art and accessories into our product mix.
Introducing Tiger Maple Designer Picture Frames
Tiger Maple designer picture frames are the first to be added to our new fine art collection.
There will be five colors to choose from, as well as, two more styles of frames that are currently in development
The Tiger Maple picture frames will be sold in three standard sizes, and custom sizes will be accepted.
I consider each one a work of art in its own right and each piece will be hand-signed and dated.
Construction and Finish
My Tiger Maple Designer Picture Frames aren’t like ordinary picture frames that you find at your local art store, or custom frame shop. Each picture frame is crafted from hand-selected highly figured tiger maple that I have shipped to me here in Texas from small lumber mills in the northeastern United States.
Each piece of wood is selected for figure and balance. It is then precision molded, and assembled using a glued joint.
The finish is a proprietary, labor intensive 12-step process, with a satin top coat, bringing the full beauty of the tiger maple to life.
I designed these frames so as not to overpower the subject being displayed, but to complement, as well as, intensify; To tell the audience: “You are looking at something great.”
Maybe it is a piece that you, or your child, created, such as the framed horse drawing by my daughter in the above photograph.
Or, maybe it’s a special family portrait, a memory in time, that you want to preserve by giving it a special place in your home.
Or, maybe you just want to frame the beauty that is you in the mirror every morning as you walk out the door.
I very much believe art is about conscious intent. Much like in a Japanese garden, everything has purpose and function, and not one thing is out of place. The discipline is not to fill the space because there is space, but to accept the empty space as a beautiful and integral part of the garden.
The Shakers had very similar beliefs and discipline. All things have a function and it is the balance that is the art. Simplicity, not to overwhelm the space but to respect its’ presence.
I believe that I have accomplished that with this first round of tiger maple picture frames.
Pricing and availability will be posted soon. There will be additional picture frame options available such as glass, custom matting, mirrors, and maybe some commissioned art work, as well.
We are evolving and adapting one day at a time.
